Unicom Graduate Management Programme

graduate jobs at Unicom, Manchester

Unicom believes that in order to remain at the forefront of a challenging and dynamic industry, continual growth and improvement is required. For this purpose, Unicom has developed a Graduate Management Programme open to graduates from any educational background.

The programme was implemented to fast-track a new wave of enthusiastic and energetic managers, to drive innovation, and to bring a fresh outlook to the company. Only by promoting excellence can Unicom develop new and exciting products and services for our customers, whilst continuing to focus on exceptional customer service.

Your journey through Unicom

The Graduate Management Programme has been designed to allow the graduates to gain an unrivalled understanding of the company. The 12-month scheme consists of rotational placements within the various departments of Unicom, providing you with the opportunity to show off your talents and abilities. You will be given regular training and guidance to continually aid your development to help you become the best manager possible.

To ensure you have comprehensive knowledge of company practices and procedures you will be rotated between the following departments:

Your journey through Unicom

By working in each department you will gain first hand experience of the inner workings of a successful telecommunications company. You will experience the various management styles used in each department whilst also receiving specific management training to prepare you for your future role in the company.

Your impact on Unicom

Throughout the Graduate Management Programme, you will have regular meetings to review your development and integration within the company. During these meetings you will discuss the department you are currently working in, reporting on how that department could be improved.

During each meeting you will be assigned a project to be completed during your next rotation. The projects completed by previous intakes have been of an exceptional standard and have been presented to the senior management (including Directors of the company) for consideration. They have helped to influence change within the company which is a major accomplishment for someone new to the business.

Each project scope is different and will challenge you to develop new skills. Previous projects have included:

  • Reporting on how to streamline and improve a department
  • Marketing strategies for the services we offer
  • Improving the performance and motivation of a team
  • Planning and executing a charity fundraising event
  • Writing press releases to gain publicity for the company
  • Proposing a logistics plan of how best to utilise a storage building

Some projects require you to work as a team with your fellow graduates; some project require you to work individually, sometimes in competition with other graduates. All projects submitted receive feedback from senior management and many projects have a real world impact (e.g. fund raising for Children in Need).

The Graduate Management Programme has been designed to challenge you and provide you with the opportunity to develop in many different areas. As well as a detailed knowledge of the telecommunications industry you will gain:

  • Management Skills
  • Communication Skills
  • Call Handling Skills
  • Time Management Skills

  • Self-Assurance

Testimonials

Unicom has had great success with previous graduate intakes. Below are a few comments from previous graduates on their views of the scheme:

"For me the most challenging part of the scheme has been the monthly projects we are tasked with. Over time these have really progressed my skill set and enabled me to gain recognition at a senior level across the company. Despite being a little apprehensive at first, I have really enjoyed being pushed outside my comfort zone; each project has been ideally designed to aid personal and professional development."
